Brexit Metaphor No 147
The series of mutinies in the British parliament over recent days is concerning. The key characteristic of a mutiny is that there is no shared goal or target, just an outburst of anxiety and dissatisfaction. This is the only thing that unites the various factions in British politics at present.
The famous Mutiny on the Bounty in the South Pacific in the late 1700s led to the stranding of the mutineers on the tiny island of Pitcairn for the rest of their lives. If the UK cannot explain to the EU what it wants, the mutinies in Parliament may push Britain away from Europe and further west into the North Atlantic. "Bounty" was promised but Bermuda beckons!
If Britain continues on this trajectory, it risks disappearing entirely into the Bermuda Triangle of shambolic political and economic mismanagement.
