Brexit Metaphor No 146
Brexit is deadlocked like a clogged up sink. Can an extension of Article 50 unblock the sink - like Mr Muscle does? Or will a plumber need to be called.
The "Polish plumber" of European affairs, Donald Tusk, has already stepped in a number of times. He seems to be getting on well with Theresa May. An extension to June 30 looks workable as a do-it-yourself option for Britain, but Tusk is even suggesting a longer extension, possibly till the end of 2020.
One thing is certain though: the two elements that have been blocking the sink will still be around: the pro-Brexit European Research Group (ERG) and the Northern Irish Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). Also quite likely, "June will not be the end of May" for yet another year, if you'll pardon the pun on the 2017 Labour election slogan.
