Is Brexit more like wrestling or like dancing? Ask Marcus Aurelius!

By George ILIEV
Brexit Metaphor No 115.

Britain's trade deal with the EU was going to be "the easiest in history" - the UK's international trade secretary Liam Fox said in 2017. However, he should have consulted with someone like Marcus Aurelius before saying this. Had he talked to a stoic, he would have discovered that "The art of living is more like wrestling than dancing", and the same goes for Brexit. Brexit hardly looks like a dance any more, now that there are only 46 days left until the Brexit date.
